Contest Rules & Registration Information
You may register up until the beginning of the contest you are entering – possibly later if time allows. Registration will take place at the tent in the stage field beginning at 2 pm on Friday and 10 am on Saturday. You must have purchased a contestant wristband to register.
Bands will register under band name. Fiddle and banjo players may only play with one band. Other players may play in other band configurations as needed. Individual members may enter as many individual contests as they like.
Contestant wristbands are $22 and must be purchased at the gate. Players will be reimbursed $5 upon presenting their wristband and their name and band name (if applicable) immediately after their final performance.
Everyone entering a contest (excluding dance-only contesants and children 12 & under) must purchase a wristband, even if your admission is free. Any musicians being paid to play for dances or showcases are ineligible to compete, though volunteering musicians may enter the contest.
All songs for old time, bluegrass, and individual competitions must be from the public domain, i.e. no copyrighted music. Non-traditional bands are excluded from this rule.
Bands will play two songs both Friday and Saturday night. Bands must perform both nights to be eligible for prizes. Bands may be limited to one song each night depending on the schedule.
To qualify, a band must consist of at least 3 different string instruments, one being a fiddle or banjo. Up to seven members allowed in band.
Each individual contestant may have one musical accompaniment including folk song. Backup instrument will be different from contestant instrument.
Playing time is limited to four minutes.
No bluegrass STYLE banjo playing in the old-time contest.
Acoustic, non-electrical instruments only.
The children’s musicianship category is for contestants age 15 and under. Please read next paragraph regarding price and refund eligibility.
Contestants age 15 and under may compete in either or both of the adult individual competitions and the children’s competitions. Children 12 and under receive free admission and do not qualify for reimbursement; contestants over 12 must pay the $20 contestant fee and are eligible for the $5 reimbursement.
Adult Dancers will perform after band competition Saturday night. No money refund to dancers. Prizes awarded only.
No taps in dance.
All sales final - no exchanges or refunds (excepting contestant refund). Lost, damaged or mutilated wristbands will not be replaced or reimbursed.
By performing, all contestants agree that the sponsor may record and reproduce performances free of claim by contestants.
Judges decisions are final.
