Concert: Alice Gerrard with Tatiana Hargreaves & Reed Stutz

Saturday, 7:30pm

Hoppin’ John is proud and honored to present Alice Gerrard back to our stage in this intergenerational concert, also featuring Tatiana Hargreaves and Reed Stutz. In her 55+ year career, Alice has helped define and shape American traditional music. As an old-time and bluegrass singer, multi-instrumentalist, publisher, teacher and friend, she continues to inspire younger generations — her music and life have become part of our aural history.

Her early groundbreaking recordings with Hazel Dickens set the tone for an unconventional musical career. A tireless advocate of traditional music, Alice has won numerous honors, including an IBMA Distinguished Achievement Award, a Virginia Arts Commission Award, the NC Folklore Society’s Tommy Jarrell Award, and an Indy Award. In 2017 Alice was inducted into the Bluegrass Hall of Fame along with Hazel Dickens. The recent documentary film about her life and music, You Gave Me a Song, has been shown at film festivals throughout the United States and internationally.

Be sure to catch Tatiana and Reed in the Fiddle Duets Showcase earlier on Saturday.
