The Old-Time Herald: A Reminiscence w/ Alice Gerrard, Gail Gillespie & Sarah Bryan

The Old-Time Herald: A Reminiscence w/ Alice Gerrard, Gail Gillespie & Sarah Bryan

Tuesday, September 12th, 7 pm

Stanford L. Warren Library, Durham

othJoin us for an informal talk and show-and-tell with the current and past editors of the Old-Time Herald magazine. Today the Durham-based publication has a loyal following of subscribers, national and international distribution, and it is truly the “journal of record” for old-time music. Traditional music legend Alice Gerrard founded the magazine in the summer of 1987 and served as its editor through 2003. When Alice retired from the magazine to resume her active musical career, Gail Gillespie took over as editor, serving for the next five years, retiring in 2008. The current editor is fiddler and folklorist Sarah Bryan, under whose energetic and capable stewardship the little magazine has continued to flourish. Come enjoy some lively stories, a multi-media hands-on presentation, as well as a mini-concert of old-time string band music.

This program is sponsored by the Shakori Hills Community Arts Center as part of the 11th Annual Hoppin’ John Fiddlers Convention.

This program is free and open to the public and will last from 7 – 8:30pm; show and tell 7-8pm, followed by a mini-concert until 8:30. The Stanford L. Warren Library is located at 1201 Fayetteville Street, Durham, North Carolina 27707 . Please email us with questions or for more information, or call the office at 910-542-1746.
